So I went to tour Rough Point, the Newport RI estate of Doris Duke. Just a little summer home with 39,000 square feet. Kinda like my co-op in NYC. BOL!
Animal Lover Doris Duke should have called her home "Ruff" Point!
As a canine visitor, I was given special permission to tour the Doris Duke home. Rough Point is right on the Cliff Walk overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Talk/bark about a view! On the tour you can see everything just like when she was living there: her priceless rugs, art and antiques -- even her cracked vases that her dogs knocked over and she glued back together.
Two words to describe my tour of Doris Duke's home - Bow-Wow!
If you like the color purple, you'll LOVE Ms Duke's bedroom!
I'm dreaming of all the treats cooked in DD's ginormous kitchen!
Besides being a musician, dancer and all around amazing human, Doris Duke was also a big animal lover and advocate which made it even more special to do my weather pawcast from Ms DD’s home. Get this -- at one time there were 12 dogs living at Rough aka Ruff Point! That’s a lot of pups . . . and a lot of poop. Good thing she had good help! And get this -- the story goes that when Ms Duke bought a 737 plane, the deal included a pair of camels. Yup, camels! They were named Princess and Baby and they lived at Rough Point ever summer. They had a tent next to the Solarium, dahling. Doesn’t everyone? And guest hanging out in the Solarium could feed them graham crackers through a special “camel gate” in the French doors. How cool is that. Imagine 2 legged and 4 legged hikers on the Cliff Walk walking by and doing a double take when they saw a pair of camels walking by. That Doris Duke was one fun human. Arf-Arf!
Bushes shaped like camels. What will humans think of next!
Here’s my weather pawcast with Meteorologist Ron Trotta from Rough/Ruff Point. We did it in front of the Solarium where Princess and Baby and her dogs use to hang out. A four paws up for Doris Duke and her love for animals!
I’m just a five pound pooch and I couldn’t begin to tell you all the details of Ms Doris Duke’s pawsome home. That’s why you need to come to Newport, RI and take the Rough Point tour. My tour guide, Mr Alison was a walking encyclopedia of DD facts. Boy, is he is one smart human. And everyone from the top dog to the gate keeper were so dog gone nice.
Making the hang with NRF top dogs, Pieter Roos & Morgan Devlin at Rough Point.
Madonna & Child . . . Andrew & Schmitty . . . priceless!
When I got back to my fab room at the pet friendly Hyatt Regency Newport Hotel and Spa (nothing like a shamelss plug!) and was sniffing around my DD goodies I noticed the book I got, Rough Point: The Newport Home Of Doris Duke was co- written by none other than my new human BFF, Pieter Roos. Who knew! Great pics and interesting info. A must read for anyone curious about Doris Duke, art and camels. Arf-Arf!
I gotta figure Ms Duke was looking down from heaven smiling when she saw me, a five pound pooch from NYC and weather dog in residence for the Hyatt Regency, enjoying a tour of her pawsome estate. And I didn’t break one Ming vase! Arf-Arf!

OK, I’m exhausted. I’m gonna go take a nap.
That’s the latest poop from Newport, RI!
