Rain nor shine nor torrential downpours could keep me away from a chance to be in the movies. Yesterday when the skies were more like faucets, I put on my raincoat, hunkered down and took off for my movie audition in Astoria, Queens. When you are a 5 pound pooch, that’s worlds away.
I decided to take the pet friendly subway -- no traffic and no rain. For $2.50 per human (pets in bags go free!) you can get on the subway and go everywhere! You go in one entrance and come out another. It’s magic! And we’re lucky to have New York’s finest protecting us in the subway, as well as above the ground.
James Bond, eat your heart out! OK, James who?
Two subways and 3 trillion drops of rain later . . . we arrived.
He wants my ID? Doesn't he recognize me? BOL!
Having been on many, no two auditions are ever alike. But one rule of paw that seems to apply at most auditions -- the “Hurry Up And Wait” rule. Movie humans take forever to scratch an itch, so plan on waiting at the audition and if you get the part, during the making of the movie. Did I mention waiting? BOL!
Oh snap! Why does the competition have to look so cute.
So, I went into a special room for the audition. Shook paws with four nice director types. And as practiced, I barked incessantly. Yup, those were my lines. To bark incessantly. And play dead. That I do really well. I can drop dead just like that. They all laughed and clapped their hands and took lots of pictures.
But like “the biz” -- it’s so unpredictable. I may have read/barked all my lines just perfectly, but my nose or ears or size may not be exactly what they were looking for. My fab agent at www.AllTameAnimals.com told me later that they all the movie humans loved me, but . . . always a but in Hollywood! Seems that the director is looking for a dog that is owned by a young homeless person and I might be A) too small and B) too well groomed. Too well groomed? Come on, I was having a bad hair day! Oh well, if it’s not one thing it’s another. I wonder if Larry David ever had to go thru this?
Can you see cranky Larry David at an audition? BOL!
So, that’s the poop on my audition. There is always lots of movies and TV shows and commercials being shot in NYC. So, don’t be shy. Whether human or critter, if you have talent you could be the next Sandra B., Alex B. or Benji. Hey, even my pesky sister, Pudge ended up on a full page ad for Ralph Lauren that ran in the NY Times, LA Times and all over the world.
It's "ruff" when your little sister models for Ralph Lauren. Arf-Arf!
OK, are you feeling lucky? Here’s a list of auditions coming up in NYC.
If you’re spontaneous, Mr. Trump is holding auditions for The Apprentice this Thursday, April 1st. And that’s no April Fools joke. 500 wristbands will be passed out at 8PM at the Trump Building on 5th Avenue & 56th St. I’ll be there in line with Meteorologist Ron Trotta doing a weather report! And I’m sure I’ll be blogging about it too. Be very afraid! Arf-Arf!
Below are some links to other auditions for all sorts of crazy things:
Hey, you can’t win if you don’t play. And I love to play! Arf-Arf! And if you are walking down 5th Avenue and happen to go by the line for The Apprentice audition at the Trump Building tomorrow -- stop by and say Sc-h-m-i-t-t-ty The W-e-a-t-her D-a-w-g! BOL!
Ya Gotta Visit NYC !
Arf-Arf,
Schmitty
PS. If you think I was acting when it came to telling ya about the weather, here’s proof it was raining cats and dogs for my audition . . .
